There was excitement at Reach Academy today as it was announced that co-founder and Secondary Headteacher, Rebecca Cramer has been short-listed for the Global Teaching Prize. Out of 30,000 nominations, Rebecca is down to the final 50 with a prize of $1m.
Rebecca co-founder Reach Academy Feltham in 2012 and has been integral to its growing reputation and to the first set of GCSE results, where Reach was ranked 15th in the country. Prior to founding Reach, Rebecca taught in Enfield, Westminster and Brixton, starting life as a Geography teacher.
Principal Ed Vainker said, “everyone at school is delighted but not surprised, we all know what a brilliant teacher and leader Rebecca is. She has played a central role in the school’s development and fully deserves this recognition. Her commitment, determination, care and empathy are exceptional, as is her teaching, which is a fantastic model for everyone at Reach. We all have our fingers crossed for the announcement of the top 10!”
The Global Teacher Prize is in its fourth year and aims to raise the profile of teaching. The 50 shortlisted teachers will be whittled down to 10 in February with the winner announced in Dubai in March 2018.
