Family support is a key element of the support offered by the Reach Children’s Hub. The support offered to Reach Academy Feltham families is funded by the school and delivered by our two Family Support workers, Kay Stone and Karen Howard.
The family support team have a case-load of families that they work with over a term and support with a range of themes. They offer advice, advocacy and sign-post to sources of support. In the past twelve months the team have supported with issues as diverse as housing, immigration, substance abuse and domestic violence.
In addition to working 1:1 with families, the team also deliver a range of Family Links courses, including the Parenting Puzzle, Talking Teens and the Nurturing Programme. These evidence-based programmes have had a huge impact in Feltham and are an important part of the Hub’s offer to families within and beyond Reach Academy Feltham.
The Parenting Puzzle has helped me deal with situations differently by using the strategies we discussed, a more positive attitude and praise. It felt like all the parents who attended had known each other for ages. The sessions were friendly and non-judgemental; a real eye-opener.
