Pupils at Reach Academy Feltham benefit from strong relationships with staff and peers and the family feel around the school. The smallness of the school ensures that all staff know all pupils and can identify issues and changes in behaviour very quickly. Alongside this care, pupils are challenged to be their best every day, rewarded for their efforts and supported to improve.
Pupils are encouraged to think carefully about the choices they are making. The weekly pay slip in Secondary and Golden Time reflection in Primary helps pupils to connect the choices they have made through the week with the progress they are making towards lives of choice and opportunity. Reflection is also an important part of learning conversations, where through regular small groups and 1:1 engagement, pupils are helped to identify ways in which they can move their learning forwards.
Our pupils work hard. All pupils get homework which they do nightly and over the weekend. Pupils are aware that hard work is the key to success and their hard work is rewarded with weekly enrichment activities and frequent trips and outside learning opportunities.
We encourage our pupils to aim high. Pupils write BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) for themselves and these are regularly updated and refined. The BHAGs help pupils to set a destination for what they want to do later in life and make what they are doing in school relevant and engaging.
Pupils at Reach Academy are set challenges on a daily basis and are supported to see making mistakes as fundamental to the learning process. We know that resilience is absolutely critical for all of our pupils and so we work hard to instill that character strength from Primary up through Secondary. Pupils talk about getting out of their comfort zones to “the place where the magic happens”, where learning is deep and powerful.
Our pupils enjoy themselves. Lessons are engaging and a positive atmosphere of mutual support is present at all times. We have a range of after-school clubs and activities for pupils and enrichment activities take place weekly and trips and outside learning opportunities regularly.
