Domestic abuse will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime. Domestic abuse is a largely invisible crime, occurring mainly behind closed doors which often can make it harder for the victims to access support.
We know that witnessing domestic violence can have a significant impact on educational attainment as well as the welfare and development of children and young people. At Reach Academy, we feel that it is crucial to highlight this issue at an early age to support our children to grow up to have healthy relationships. With the support of the Learning to Respect team in Hounslow we recently had an off timetable ‘Team Reach’ day where students across the whole school got to learn and develop their knowledge on what healthy and unhealthy relationships look like and how to stay safe. We have many days like this throughout the academic year where we address the key safeguarding priorities in our local borough.
By raising awareness in Reach Academy on the issue of domestic violence we are not only educating our children on being safe but also demonstrating our continuous commitment to prevent children from risk and harm.
