Reach Academy Sport Update

We were delighted to move into our new building in November, not least because of the transformation in our sports’ facilities. With Samanatha Harvey joining the team as our Lead PE teacher, we have seen an explosion in competitive sport, as well as a broad range of extra-curricular clubs and activities. Here are some of the highlights:

TCreated with Nokia Smart Camhe cross country team has been training hard on Monday mornings before school and their hard work paid off on Tuesday 13th January at the Hounslow Championships as Morgan (4th- YR7 Girls), Ellie (5th- YR 7 Girls), Bilal (4th– YR8 Boys) and Elliott (3rd– YR9 Boys) all qualified to represent Hounslow at the Middlesex Championships. These championships where held in challenging conditions at the Harrow school on Thursday 29th January. With xcfreezing temperatures, hail, mud and some sleet to contend with all four did their best and finished 60th, 61st, 40th and 41st respectively.

We wish all our cross country athletes the best of luck in the Hounslow mini marathon on Saturday 14th February in Osterley Park. The top 6 athletes from each year group will qualify to compete at the mini marathon in central London on marathon day in April.

netball1The year 9 netball team have been on a journey of development since September. After taking part in their first competitive game (where they lost 21-0) the girls reflected on what had been the root causes of this defeat. The outcome of their reflections was to practise, practise, practise- in particular on their fitness. Their courage and endeavour paid off in their last two games where they have beaten Cranford and Heathlands in two very close games. With one fixture left the team are aiming for a hatrick of wins to end the season.  Well done girls!

netball2The year 7 netball team have completed their first competitive season at Reach Academy in the Hounslow B League finishing 5th out of seven teams. The girls have made vast progress over the season with two closely fought draws with Cranford A and Cranford B. Our shooters have been regularly making the back of the net with some superb long distance shots from Jahyomi and Faith. We wish them luck in their upcoming tournament in March at Heathlands.

football1Our boys football teams have a range of fixtures coming up in the coming weeks. In the coming months, our Year 7 team will play Heathlands, Rivers, Cranford, Heston and Feltham Community College and the Year 8/9 team face Lampton and Cranford.

In addition to these, Reach Academy has become the Feltham hub of the Richmond Volleyball Club, which is popular with our pupils. Our Year 9 pupils are pursuing a Sports’ Leader Award. We also have dance and basketball after school activities and will start a yoga group next term.
